About Mathieu Lévesque

Mathieu is an advertising industry photographer who specializes in food and product photography. Having originally studied in cinematography, Mathieu remains inspired by cinema to this day as he applies framing and lighting notions that offer the viewer a graphic aesthetic and minimalism, sometimes even going as far as unveiling an architectural vision.

Locomotive's work

Locomotive created a new visual identity and redesigned Mathieu Lévesque's online portfolio. The goal was to modernize the presentation while spotlighting the photographer’s work. The website had to be uncluttered, unadorned, and easy to use in order to focus the viewer’s complete attention on the artist’s work. Photographs and video production projects are presented on the home page as they scroll continuously into view. Particular attention is also given to the showreel, highlighting this videographer-photographer’s work.

Fullscreen with gyroscope functionalities

To add more refinement to the zoom function on mobile devices for the portfolio, Locomotive pushed the boundaries by using a device’s gyroscope to navigate an image in full-screen mode. Moving a device around reveals image detail and precision, in high resolution, to help the viewer better appreciate the photograph.

The results

Organic traffic was optimized through better code and mobile access. Indeed, compared to past average annual visits, there was a 50% increase in visitors on mobile devices and also a 30% increase in overall traffic. The project also earned Locomotive many awards.
